This year your child will have the opportunity to participate in the Accelerated Reader Program (AR). This is a motivational reading program that allows students to read books and then take tests on the computer to check for comprehension. After the student takes a reading test on the computer, points will be assigned to your child by the computer based on the reading level and the number of questions they answer correctly. Our theme for the AR Program this year is “Rock into Reading”. The kick-off is Thursday, September 3, 2009. The students may dress-up like their favorite singer on that day.
Each month we will have a different activity related to music that students are able to enjoy. To participate, the school must achieve 1,000 points, however each student must achieve a personal goal as well. The goal for each month is as follows:
Kindergarten: read 8 books (2 per week) with an adult at home and turn in a note (no test required)
First Grade: 3 points
Second Grade: 4 points
Third Grade: 5 points
Fourth Grade: 6 points
Fifth Grade: 7 points
Our activity for the points attained in September is karaoke in the gym on Oct.2, 2009. The students who have been the top readers will have the first opportunity to participate.
If you would like more information about the AR program or you would like to help, please contact the school at 881-3394. We are looking specifically for people who can share a talent or hobby related to music. Let us know what you can do!
